What You Will Learn in this Course:

The course will focus on six essential components of Grace and Courtesy learning:

  • Self-Awareness/Metacognition
  • Social Awareness
  • Kind and Respectful Language
  • Graceful and Intentional Physical Movement
  • Social Justice Within and Beyond the Classroom
  • Care and Beautification of the Environment

This course will be led by Cheryl Allen and Jonathan Wolff. Cheryl is trained and has taught in both primary and elementary Montessori classrooms and is now working as a part of the Montessori Foundation Family Network, connecting parents to Montessori, she is also a workshop presenter and consultant. She is a Montessori child herself and has two children whom both attended Montessori schools from ages 3 through high school graduation. Jonathan is trained and has taught in the Montessori primary classroom, been an administrator and is now an international workshop presenter, author, poet, and Montessori consultant.

The course consists of three modules. Each module includes a pre-recorded video, an invitation for reflection, and a live session to share reflections and ask questions. You are invited to review the pre-recorded video in advance and we will further discuss the content and the reflections in our weekly 1 ½ hour live sessions.

Instructor Bio:

Jonathan is a consultant, trainer, speaker and author who infuses his work in leadership development with 30 years experience as an educator and administrator. In addition to serving as a senior consultant for the Montessori Foundation and working with the Montessori Leadership Institute, he was the Founder and Director of Learning for Life and Montessori Leadership.Jonathan provides retreats, workshops, consultations and coaching for parents, educators, leaders, Boards of Directors, community organizations and learning communities around the globe. The best-practice leadership retreats and workshops he leads facilitate community building, strategic planning and improved organizational effectiveness. He is the coauthor with Tim Seldin of Building a World-class Montessori School, Master Teachers – Model Programs.After earning his B.A. degree in Secondary Education from Temple University, Jonathan began teaching at-risk youth in Philadelphia. Early in his career, he read several books on the Montessori philosophy and quickly recognized the power her work in human development had to effect transformation not only within the young child, but within adults as well. He went on to study with Mother Isabelle Eugenie, one of Dr. Montessori's first students, earned his Early Childhood Credential through the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), and began his career as a Montessori educator at one of the first Head Start Montessori Centers in the United States.Today, his primary focus is on leadership development – designing best practices and writing books and articles that enhance individual and organizational performance. Instructor Bio:

Cheryl Allen attended Montessori school as a child. After some time as a traditional secondary teacher, she worked in Montessori classrooms, both 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12, earning certifications from both AMS (3-6 and 6-9) and IMC (6-12). She is a teacher educator, workshop presenter, and member of IMC accreditation teams. Cheryl’s two children attended Montessori school from age two through high school graduation.
